The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to announce the central contracts for the 2025 season, but this year’s contract list sees a significant change as Shakib Al Hasan, one of the biggest names in Bangladesh cricket, is set to be excluded for the first time. Moreover, Shakib has yet to receive his payment for the final four months of his previous contract from last season. The BCB still owes him 4.8 million BDT (approximately 38,400 USD) in match fees and other dues, as he was placed in the highest category under the contract.

Shakib Al Hasan, the former captain and one of the most iconic figures in Bangladesh cricket, did not receive his salary for the last four months of the 2024 contract season. Despite being in the highest category for all three formats, Shakib has not been paid for September, October, November, and December of the previous year.

BCB officials acknowledged the situation in a statement to Cricbuzz, explaining that the delay in payment is due to Shakib's bank account being frozen. They stated, "It’s true that he (Shakib) has not yet received his salary for September, October, November, and December, and the main reason is that his bank account has been frozen."

The total amount owed to Shakib, excluding tax deductions, stands at 4.8 million BDT (38,400 USD). However, due to the freezing of his bank account, the BCB is unable to pay him his outstanding dues.

In October of last year, Shakib's bank account, along with that of his wife, was frozen due to investigations into suspicious transactions. The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) confirmed that the accounts were frozen following the discovery of unusual financial transactions during a review.

In addition to Shakib, several leaders of the Awami League and government-linked businessmen were arrested or had their bank accounts frozen following the coup in Bangladesh on August 5, when the Sheikh Hasina government fell. This led to the freezing of Shakib and his wife’s accounts as part of an ongoing investigation. Shakib Al Hasan is currently abroad, and legal action has also been taken against him in Bangladesh.
