Shakib Al Hasan is out caught & bowled, struggle with the bat continues
On his debut match for Surrey, Shakib Al Hasan impressed with a four-wicket haul, but struggled with the bat. Shakib, who took four wickets with the ball, was less successful with the bat, managing only 12 runs from 24 balls. He spent just 21 minutes at the crease after bowling 33.5 overs in the first innings.
For the first time since November 2007, Shakib was dismissed in a first-class match via a catch-and-bowl. On this occasion, he was caught off a delivery by Somerset spinner Jack Leach. Leach made no mistake in taking the catch, leaving Shakib to walk off the field with disappointment.
On the first day of the match in Taunton, Somerset was bowled out for 317, largely due to Shakib's spin. He was the standout performer among Surrey’s bowlers, taking 4 wickets for 97 runs in 33.5 overs. However, Shakib's batting was far from impressive.
Despite his stellar performance with the ball, Shakib failed to make an impact with the bat, exacerbating the team's troubles rather than alleviating them. On the third day of the match, Shakib came in after Ryan Patel was dismissed for 70. He faced Jack Leach, hitting a boundary off the fourth ball and later hitting a shot for four against Arachi Vaughn.
However, Shakib's innings did not last long. He was dismissed for just 12 runs, caught off Leach's bowling, marking Surrey's fifth wicket at 216 runs. With Shakib’s quick dismissal, Surrey’s predicament worsened, trailing Somerset’s first-innings total by 101 runs.
