Roots Century and Heads Storm Keep Ashes Drama Alive, Australia 166-2, England Lead by 218
The second day of the Ashes Test was filled with excitement. England’s Joe Root and Australia’s Travis Head dominated the proceedings with their batting, making the game seem entirely in their control. England posted a first-innings total of 384, with Root as the standout performer, scoring his 41st Test century with 160 runs. Harry Brook also contributed 84 runs, strengthening England’s innings.
However, England couldn’t fully capitalize on their advantage due to a few dropped catches and missed opportunities. Michael Neser wrapped up England’s innings efficiently, taking 4 wickets for 60 runs in 18.3 overs.
Australia, in reply, ended the day at 166/2. Travis Head remained unbeaten on 91 off 87 balls, giving his side a strong position. With this innings, Head reached the 500-run milestone in the series, a feat last achieved by Steven Smith in 2019. Head’s batting repeatedly put England’s bowling under pressure.
It was a dramatic day of cricket. Root had to leave the field briefly due to a back spasm. At the crease, Head was well-supported by Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey. Labuschagne fell for 48, but Head carried on, dominating Australia’s innings.
