Bangladesh seem to have finally rediscovered their rhythm in their favourite format. After 19 long months, the Tigers tasted victory in a home ODI series once again. Under Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s leadership, Bangladesh clinched the three-match series 2–1, following a commanding 179-run win over West Indies at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday.

At the heart of this triumph stood young all-rounder Rishad Hossain — the standout performer of the series. With his sharp leg-spin, he consistently troubled West Indian batters, while also contributing valuable runs down the order. His reward: the Player of the Series award and a world record — the most wickets ever taken by a spinner in a three-match ODI series.

The 22-year-old leg-spinner claimed three wickets in the decisive final ODI, adding to his career-best six-wicket haul in the first match and three wickets in the second, to finish the series with 12 wickets in total.

Until now, Adam Zampa (Australia) and Rashid Khan (Afghanistan) jointly held the record with 11 wickets each in a three-match ODI series. Rishad has now surpassed both to claim the record outright.

In the overall history of ODI cricket, Rishad now sits second on the list for most wickets in a three-match series, behind only Mustafizur Rahman, who took 13 wickets against India in 2015. With 12 wickets, Rishad joins former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and West Indian quick Vasbert Drakes, both of whom also achieved the same figure.

This home success, however, is about more than just numbers. It marks a much-needed confidence boost for Bangladesh, and the emergence of Rishad Hossain as a symbol of the team’s new generation — bold, fearless, and capable of turning matches with spin and skill alike.
