Report: Rangpur Riders Honors Martyrs of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement with New Practice Jersey
In a heartfelt tribute to the martyrs of the anti-discrimination student movement, Rangpur Riders have introduced a new practice jersey with distinct features. The jersey incorporates red, symbolizing the blood of the martyrs, and green, representing the symbol of a new Bangladesh.
On Thursday, Rangpur Riders shared images of the new practice jersey on their official Facebook page, with a caption that read: "Rangpur Riders' practice jersey has a difference: A tribute to the martyrs of the anti-discrimination student movement, remembered with utmost respect."
Players of Rangpur Riders were seen wearing the new red and green practice jersey during training at the Mirpur Academy Ground. In previous seasons, the team had worn blue jerseys for their practice sessions.
The design of the new jersey is rich in symbolism to honor the martyrs. At the bottom of the jersey, a red flag is seen being held by a group of people, with splashes of blood on it. This imagery reflects the sacrifices made in 1971 and serves as a reminder of the bloodshed that led to the birth of a new nation.
The movement against the autocratic rule of the Awami League and the fight for an equitable Bangladesh united people across the country. Although the movement succeeded, it claimed thousands of young lives. The blood of these martyrs was the price for the creation of a new Bangladesh, and Rangpur Riders’ initiative is a heartfelt effort to keep their memory alive.
