Record Viewership for India in 2025 Champions Trophy
The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy has set a new record for television viewership in India. The TV ratings for this tournament have increased by over 23% compared to the 2023 World Cup, marking a historic milestone in the tournament's history.
Broadcast live on Star Sports and Jio Hotstar, the total watch time for the event reached 137 billion minutes on television and 110 billion minutes on digital platforms. This massive viewership was largely driven by the thrilling final between India and New Zealand, held in Dubai on March 9, which recorded 122 million TV viewers and 61 million live viewers on Jio Hotstar—setting a new record for digital cricket viewership.
The final became the second-highest rated ODI match in television history, with 230 million viewers tuning in and a total watch time of 53 billion minutes. ICC Chairman Jay Shah expressed his excitement about the tournament's success, saying, "The Champions Trophy has made a remarkable comeback after eight years, and the viewership in India has been phenomenal. The India-New Zealand final, in particular, captured immense audience interest."
Additionally, the India-Pakistan match generated tremendous excitement among Indian viewers, accumulating over 26 billion minutes of total watch time, setting a record for this tournament.
A key factor behind this massive viewership was Jio Hotstar’s strategic marketing and multi-language broadcasting, which engaged Indian audiences across different languages and further fueled their passion for cricket.
Furthermore, the tournament’s digital streaming on Jio Hotstar featured 16 different feeds, including nine languages such as English, Hindi, Marathi, Haryanvi, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.
The extraordinary success of the 2025 Champions Trophy has provided a thrilling experience for Indian cricket fans, proving once again that the nation's love for cricket, combined with effective marketing strategies, continues to create new milestones in the sport’s history.
