Throughout his long journey from Sylhet to the national team, Rajin Saleh has always had Selim Ahmed by his side. Selim Ahmed is neither a coach nor a sports organizer, yet he shares a deep bond with Sylhet cricket. From the early days of Rajin, Alok, and Tapash, Selim has been a constant companion.

Be it a Sylhet league club or the Sylhet divisional team, Selim Ahmed has always been the trusted associate of Rajin, Alok, and Tanna. Even when Rajin and Alok moved beyond Sylhet and made their mark in Dhaka, Selim continued to serve beside them as a skilled support staff member.

Youth has passed, and those golden days of his prime are long gone. His once jet-black hair is now streaked with grey, his beard showing the marks of time. Yet, Selim Ahmed remains devoted to his role, now serving as a support staff member for the next generation of Rajin, Alok, and Tapash in the Sylhet divisional team.

Joining Selim in the Sylhet team’s support staff are two younger members — Manik Mia, who has been with the team for over eight years, and a young man named Rubel, who joined about two years ago.

Alongside these three, former Bangladesh captain and current Sylhet divisional team coach Rajin Saleh expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the support staff across the country’s sporting arena through an emotional Facebook post. In it, he highlighted the tireless efforts and sacrifices of these unsung individuals who stand behind the players’ success.

Rajin wrote,
“Bhai Manik, Selim Bhai, Rubel Bhai — they are our Sylhet team’s supporting staff. I had been meaning to write about them for a long time but never quite got to it. We often talk about the coaches or organizers behind our careers, but the real heroes — the supporting staff — are rarely mentioned.”

He further added,
“Every player knows how much time, effort, patience, and sacrifice these people put in for us. They silently endure the most hardship, the most hassle, the most pressure, sweating day after day to help the players.”

Speaking about the role of support staff in Bangladesh sports, Rajin said,
“Not just in our team — in every sports team in Bangladesh, the support staff are the hardest-working yet the most neglected. My sincere respect, love, and prayers go out to them. I could not have become ‘Rajin Saleh’ without their contribution.”

In the concluding part of his post, the former captain expressed his enduring love and respect for all the support staff working behind the scenes in Bangladeshi sports.
