Rain Delays Play on Day One; Taskin Strikes Early on Day Two
The first day of the second Test in Rawalpindi was washed out due to rain. The toss took place a day later, with Bangladesh opting to bowl first. The decision paid off immediately as Taskin Ahmed struck in the very first over. Making a comeback, Taskin bowled out Pakistan's opener Abdullah Shafique, providing Bangladesh with an early breakthrough.
However, Pakistan's opening duo of Saim Ayub and captain Shan Masood weathered the early storm. Ayub displayed solid defensive skills, while Masood played in an aggressive One Day International (ODI) style.
By lunch on the second day, Pakistan had reached 99 runs for the loss of one wicket in 25 overs. Ayub remained unbeaten on 43 runs off 83 balls, and Masood was not out on 53 runs from 62 balls.
Taskin, who missed the first Test in Rawalpindi, returned to the playing XI for this match after last featuring in a Test against Afghanistan in June last year. His return was marked by a stellar performance as he shattered Shafique's stumps in the first over.
Despite losing Shafique for a duck, Pakistan recovered with a strong partnership between Ayub and Masood. The captain, Masood, reached his 10th Test fifty in just 54 balls.
