In the fourth Youth ODI, England U-19 made a strong start with the bat, but rain ultimately had the final say as the match was abandoned without Bangladesh getting an opportunity to bat.
The game was reduced to 45 overs per side, and after winning the toss, England posted 279 for 5 in their allotted overs. Skipper Thomas Rew was the standout performer, playing a brilliant knock of 93 off 86 balls, laced with 7 fours and 4 sixes. The younger brother of England Test player James Rew narrowly missed out on a century, facing just one ball in the final over before being dismissed.
Rew was well supported by Ralphie Albert, who smashed a quickfire 52 off 43 balls with 5 boundaries and 2 sixes. Jack Nelson contributed 28 runs, while the Rew-Albert pair added 89 runs for the fifth wicket. Earlier, Rew and Nelson shared a 71-run stand.
Bangladesh’s bowlers had a mixed day, conceding 27 extras in total. However, among them, Shadhin Islam was the most economical, returning figures of 1 for 35 in 9 overs. The other wickets were shared by Al Fahad, Azizul Hakim, Samiun Bashir, and Rizan Hossain, each picking up one.
But the young Tigers were denied the chance to chase as heavy rain washed out the contest.
The fifth and final match of the series will be played on 14 September.
