Prime Bank Cricket Club Sets New Record in Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League
Prime Bank Cricket Club has etched its name in history by becoming the first club to score over 400 runs in a match in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL). Their mammoth total of 422 runs is now a new benchmark in Bangladesh’s domestic cricket. Mohammad Naim Sheikh, who has been in excellent form since the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), continued his superb batting in the DPL, scoring 176 runs off 125 balls, with 18 fours and 8 sixes. Naim’s brilliant performance brought a deluge of runs on Mirpur’s typically slow pitch, demonstrating an exceptional display of batting dominance.
Before this match, the highest team score in Bangladesh’s List-A cricket was 393, set by Abahani Limited. But today, with the bats of Naim Sheikh and Sabbir Hossain, Prime Bank Cricket Club has set a new record in DPL history, reaching the highest team score with 422 runs. With 43 fours and 17 sixes, Prime Bank now holds the record for the most runs ever scored in a DPL match. Naim Sheikh’s powerful batting, which included a flurry of boundaries, helped set up this historic achievement. However, despite his impressive century, Naim may feel a sense of disappointment for not converting his innings into a double century. He had the opportunity to become only the second batter in Bangladesh’s List-A cricket history to score a double century, but fell short of the mark after scoring 176 runs.
In a surprising turn of events, Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium witnessed a run fest as Prime Bank posted a remarkable 422 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs. Naim Sheikh was the standout performer, playing a record-breaking 176-run innings. He was dismissed in the 39th over, having already propelled the team’s total beyond 300 runs. With his 176 runs off 125 balls, Naim’s innings was adorned with 18 fours and 8 sixes, leaving a lasting mark on the record books.
Has Naim Sheikh found his form again? After a somewhat inconsistent spell in the National Cricket League (NCL) and BPL, the left-handed opener has found his rhythm, scoring one century and three half-centuries in recent matches. In the National Cricket League T20, he scored the highest runs (316), and in the BPL, he was the highest run-scorer (511).
Naim's bat has continued to shine, following his first-ever century in the BPL with a stellar performance in the 50-over format in the DPL. His 176-run innings today stands as his career-best in List-A cricket. Against Brothers Union, Naim capitalized on the opportunity to bat first, taking full advantage of the conditions to play an aggressive innings.
