Opponent Confirmed for Pakistans T20 World Cup Warm-up Match
Ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, to be held in India and Sri Lanka, Pakistan will face Ireland in their only warm-up match. The match is scheduled to be played on February 4 at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo.
The Colombo venue will also host Pakistan’s group-stage matches. Pakistan will play the Netherlands on February 7and the USA on February 10.
Meanwhile, India will play their only warm-up match against South Africa on February 4. Additionally, an India A side will play against Namibia in Bengaluru and against the USA in Mumbai on February 6.
Some of the top-ranked teams, including Australia, England, and New Zealand, have opted out of warm-up matches. Australia’s final preparation before the World Cup will be a three-match T20I series against Pakistan, starting Thursday. England, meanwhile, are currently engaged in a white-ball series against Sri Lanka.
Pakistan will play all of their World Cup matches in Sri Lanka, as teams from Pakistan and India will not tour each other’s countries for ICC events during the stipulated period and will instead compete at neutral venues. If Pakistan reach the semi-finals and final, both knockout matches will be held in Colombo. Otherwise, the semi-finals and final will take place in Kolkata and Ahmedabad, respectively.
