The BCCI has confirmed that India’s jersey for the ICC Champions Trophy will be prepared following ICC guidelines. This means the Indian jersey will feature the official ICC logo, which includes Pakistan's name.
To put an end to the controversy surrounding India’s jersey and the Champions Trophy logo, BCCI Secretary Debajit Saikia told Cricbuzz, “Whatever the ICC’s guidelines are, we will follow them.” When asked about Pakistan’s name appearing on the official ICC logo, Saikia reiterated, “We will adhere to ICC’s guidelines.”
Initially, it was speculated that the Indian team might not play in Pakistan, leading to concerns about a new controversy surrounding Pakistan’s name on the Indian jersey. However, it has now been confirmed that there will be no such issue. Even though India will play its matches in Dubai, the jerseys will mention Pakistan as per ICC regulations.
Meanwhile, when asked if India’s captain Rohit Sharma will attend the opening ceremony in Pakistan, the BCCI Secretary stated that no decision has been made yet. The opening match is scheduled to take place in Karachi on February 19.
Typically, participating teams follow ICC guidelines for all global events. All teams are required to submit their playing or practice kits to the ICC for approval. For instance, in the 2017 Champions Trophy, the participating teams’ jerseys mentioned "England and Wales" instead of just England.
Similarly, the jerseys worn by Pakistani players during the 2023 World Cup included India’s name. Currently, in the ongoing ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup in Malaysia, the event logo features the host country’s name.
