One of the most gifted and impactful batters in West Indies cricket, Nicholas Pooran has announced his retirement from international cricket. In a statement, Cricket West Indies (CWI) expressed deep gratitude and respect for his remarkable contributions and unforgettable moments.

The left-handed batter from Trinidad departs the international stage as the most-capped T20I player (106 matches) and highest run-scorer (2,275 runs) in West Indies T20I history. His strike rate of 136.39 speaks volumes about his explosive batting prowess in the shortest format.

Pooran also shone brightly in the ODI format, amassing 1,983 runs in 55 matches at an average of 39.66 and a strike rate of 99.15.

Pooran first came into the limelight during the 2014 U-19 World Cup. He made his senior debut in 2016 and quickly established himself as a dependable middle-order batter. He was vice-captain during the 2021 T20 World Cup and led the side as captain for six months in 2022.

In the 2024 T20 World Cup, Pooran surpassed Chris Gayle to become West Indies’ highest run-scorer in T20Is.
