Nahid Rana takes his maiden five-wicket haul in Tests!
Bangladesh, after being bowled out for just 164 runs in their first innings, came back strongly with the ball to bowl West Indies out for 146 runs in their first innings, giving Bangladesh a slender 18-run lead. The standout performer for Bangladesh was Nahid Rana, who claimed his career-best figures of 5 wickets for 61 runs from 18 overs, marking his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket.
West Indies' batting collapsed spectacularly as they lost 9 wickets for just 61 runs, leaving only 3 top-order batsmen to reach double digits.
Nahid Rana was the star of the morning session, and his fiery pace completely rattled the West Indies batsmen. The hosts, who began the day at 1 wicket for 70 runs, soon found themselves reeling, losing 7 wickets in a swift period. Bangladesh's pace trio of Nahid Rana, Hasan Mahmud, and Taskin Ahmed bowled relentlessly to reduce West Indies to a near-collapse by lunch.
The early breakthroughs came thick and fast, with Nahid Rana leading the charge, shattering the West Indian top order. Following him, Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud also contributed wickets, keeping the pressure mounting. After the lunch break, Mehedi Hasan Miraz picked up the wicket of Shamarh Brooks, while Nahid Rana completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing the last batsman, Kemar Roach, with a leg-before wicket (LBW).
Kacey Carty was the highest scorer for West Indies with 40 runs, while captain Craig Brathwaite made 39 runs. Apart from these two, 7 West Indian batsmen were dismissed for single-digit scores, with the team struggling to build any substantial partnerships.
With a lead of 18 runs, Bangladesh will be optimistic about their chances of taking control of the match as they look to extend their advantage and finish off the West Indies in the second innings.
