Mustafizur ruled out of IPL amid controversy, BCCI instructs KKR to release him

The uncertainty surrounding Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman in this season’s Indian Premier League (IPL) has finally turned into reality. Speculation and discussion over his participation in the world’s most glamorous franchise tournament have come to an end, with Mustafizur ultimately missing out on the IPL. Despite all preparations, the Bangladeshi fast bowler will not take the field in this year’s competition.

The decision regarding the left-arm pacer has come from the highest level of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The BCCI has instructed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Mustafizur from their squad. Confirming the matter to Indian news agency PTI, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said,

“In view of the recent developments, the BCCI has instructed the KKR franchise to release Bangladesh player Mustafizur Rahman from their squad. In addition, if they wish to make any changes or bring in a replacement, the BCCI will approve it.”

Mustafizur Rahman’s IPL journey began in 2016 with Sunrisers Hyderabad. In his debut season, he not only won the title but was also named the tournament’s Emerging Player. Since then, the left-arm pacer has featured regularly in the IPL. After Sunrisers Hyderabad, he represented Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. In the latest auction, Mustafizur was picked up for INR 9.2 crore and was set to play for Kolkata as his sixth IPL franchise, but in the end, his name remains outside the IPL this season.
