Although there is uncertainty surrounding Mohammad Nabi's future in the national team, his dream of playing alongside his son has kept the hope of continuing his cricket career alive. At 40, Nabi remains fit and continues to perform well, which serves as an inspiration to many.
Expressing his desire to play for the national team alongside his son, Hassan Ishaqil, Nabi has made it clear that he is not ready to retire from cricket just yet. Hassan, who performed well in the Under-19 World Cup for Afghanistan, is seen by Nabi as a potential top-level cricketer, provided he continues to work hard.
Speaking about the dream of playing with his son, Nabi said, “This is my dream. I hope we can make it happen. Hassan is doing very well... he is very hardworking, and I always encourage him to put in the effort.”
He further added, “I want him to set his own goals. If he wants to be a top-level cricketer, scoring 50-60 runs is not enough; he needs to score over 100 runs. He listens to me and is always looking to improve himself. When he talks to me, I give him advice to boost his confidence for the matches.”
Although Nabi has not made a clear decision about his retirement, he may reduce the number of One-Day Internationals (ODIs) he plays after the Champions Trophy. However, he may still feature in crucial matches if he can maintain his fitness. Nabi said, "This may not be my last international ODI. I may play fewer ODIs and give more opportunities to younger players. I have spoken with senior cricketers, and perhaps I will play in high-level matches. It will depend on my fitness."
Talking about his performance in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Nabi shared, "Winning the BPL has given me even more confidence. We reached the final from a difficult situation. We performed really well in this tournament, and my performance with both bat and ball was also good."
