Mirwais Ashraf set to continue as ACB Chairman
Mirwais Ashraf set to continue as ACB Chairman
Mirwais Ashraf is set to continue his role as the Chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) for an additional three years. This confirmation came from a senior board official, who spoke to Indian media outlet Cricbuzz on the condition of anonymity.
Ashraf was appointed Chairman of the ACB in 2021. Although his current term was set to end in August 2024, he is seeking an extension for another three years.
The board official informed Cricbuzz, "Due to his performance over the past three years, the Taliban government has extended Mirwais Ashraf's term as Chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board by an additional three years."
The official further explained, "Stability is the key to our success, and we strive to value it. Over the last three years, we have had one Chairman, one CEO, and one coach. We have only changed our captain once because we believe that to develop as a cricketing nation, we need to focus more on stability."
It has been reported that Afghanistan's Prime Minister has decided to extend Mirwais Ashraf's term as Chairman for an additional three years. Ashraf was initially appointed as the head of the board and later elected to continue his work as Chairman.
According to the ACB’s constitution and international standards, elections are expected to be held in December. During this process, board members will elect a new Chairman through a transparent voting process at the AGM (Annual General Meeting).
