After a long spell of disappointment, the Bangladesh ODI team finally found a reason to smile. The series win against the West Indies was more than just a scoreboard success — it brought a breath of relief to a weary dressing room led by Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
Having endured the pressure of consecutive defeats as captain, this victory was a timely confidence boost for Miraz. Speaking at the post-match press conference, he reflected on his difficult times and urged everyone to remain patient.
“It’s definitely been a tough time for me. But I need a bit of time, and everyone needs to be patient. Of course, I’m human — I’ll make mistakes. But if everyone continues to support me, at the end of the day, we’re all playing for our country. I believe if we stay united and patient, In Sha Allah, we’ll bounce back,” Miraz said.
Despite the struggles, Miraz’s optimism shines through. He firmly believes that good times follow bad ones.
“We’re cricketers — tough times will come. But I always feel that after a bad phase, a good one is waiting ahead. Maybe the time I’ve gone through will lead to something better in the future,” he added.
Looking ahead, Miraz shared his thoughts on preparations for the 2027 World Cup, which will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia — conditions vastly different from those in Mirpur. Still, the Bangladesh skipper believes two to three months of focused planning would be enough.
“Maybe we couldn’t perform well in the previous World Cup, but for the next one, we’ll need a separate process and plan. I think that planning should start two to three months before the tournament — how we’ll play, how our skill camps will go, how we’ll prepare, and where we’ll practice. Those things should be done specifically before the World Cup,” said Miraz.
He also emphasized the importance of making the most of home advantage in bilateral series, saying,
“In bilateral series, I think home advantage is very important.”
