Bangladesh suffered a 3–0 whitewash in the T20 series against the West Indies. Following the defeat, the biggest concern for the Tigers has been the poor performance of their middle order. While the top order provided good starts in several matches, the middle-order batters failed to capitalize and turn them into big innings. Yet, captain Liton Das has expressed full faith in his teammates despite the setbacks.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Liton said, “There’s nothing to worry about. The players who are in the squad have been playing for years. Sometimes one or two series may not go well — that happens.”
According to the skipper, the players have been playing continuous cricket, which has taken a toll on them both physically and mentally. “I think it’s also important to allow some rest. There’s a break coming up, and I believe everyone will return refreshed from it,” he added.
Despite questions about the middle order’s strike rate and consistency throughout the series, Liton continues to trust his players. “Those who are playing are all proven performers. One or two changes might happen, but making frequent changes doesn’t bring good results. There’s no guarantee a new player will instantly perform well,” he explained.
Liton believes the core of the national team should be built around the experienced players who have been consistent over the years, and trusting them will eventually bring results.
He also felt that pitch and weather conditions had a big impact on the series. “We batted on dry wickets, while they batted with dew on the surface. That’s where the difference came. Some things are simply not in our control,” said Liton.
According to him, the middle-order batters need to work on their shot selection and decision-making, but he remains hopeful that they will bounce back with time. “A coach can only give you advice — he won’t go out and play for you. You have to take those ideas and apply them yourself on the field,” Liton remarked.
He added, “Our coaches are fully supporting us. The failures are ours — we couldn’t deliver. But I’m confident our players will learn from this and perform better in the upcoming matches.”
Although the series loss was disappointing, the Bangladesh captain remains optimistic that the upcoming rest and preparation period will have a positive impact on the team. “Cricket is a game that offers new opportunities every day. Our team is waiting for that next chance,” said Liton Das.
After the West Indies tour, Bangladesh will now focus on preparing for several home series. Liton hopes that, after a much-needed break and proper rebuilding, the middle-order batters will return stronger and showcase their best once again.
