Max O'Dowd stays unbeaten on 158 and Netherlands complete the third-highest ODI chase ever

Despite a stunning 191-run knock from George Munsey, Scotland fell short as the Netherlands pulled off one of the greatest run chases in ODI history. Riding on Max O’Dowd’s unbeaten 158, the Dutch chased down a massive 374-run target, winning by four wickets — the third-highest successful chase in ODI history.

After winning the toss, Scotland opted to bat first. Left-handed opener Munsey was in sensational form, smashing 191 off just 150 balls, including 20 fours and 9 sixes. His knock surpassed Paul Stirling’s 177 from 2010, becoming the highest individual ODI score by an associate nation’s player. Supported by skipper Matthew Cross (59), the pair added a 150-run stand for the fifth wicket to guide Scotland to an imposing 369/6.

But the day belonged to Max O’Dowd. His 158 run innings* was a masterclass in pacing a chase. He built crucial partnerships: 67 runs with Michael Levitt, 68 with skipper Scott Edwards, small contributions with Wesley Barresi, and ultimately match-defining stands with Teja Nidamanuru and Noah Croes.

Nidamanuru scored a quick 51, while Croes played a whirlwind 50 off 29 balls. With just 15 runs needed and four balls remaining, it was O’Dowd who sealed the victory with a commanding six, capping off an unforgettable run chase.

This victory not only gave the Netherlands the lead in the series but also etched their name in ODI history, marking one of the most incredible comebacks by an associate nation.
