Matthew Kuhnemann Cleared to Join Australia’s Test Squad
Matthew Kuhnemann has been cleared to join Australia’s Test squad for the Sri Lanka tour after recovering from a thumb fracture. The left-arm spinner, who underwent surgery for the injury, has regained sufficient fitness and will soon link up with the team.
Kuhnemann sustained the injury to his right thumb while playing in the Big Bash League last week. However, he successfully bowled without any issues during training this week. On Thursday, Kuhnemann stated that his thumb was almost pain-free during bowling, batting, and fielding sessions in Brisbane.
The 28-year-old spinner is a key player for Australia in the two-Test series against Sri Lanka. On Thursday, Kuhnemann bowled eight overs, batted, and also worked on his fielding at Allan Border Field. He participated in throwdown sessions with Brisbane Heat and Queensland bowling coach Andy Bichel and took a few catches under the supervision of Heat physio Adam Smith.
Kuhnemann is one of three frontline spinners in the Australian squad for the Sri Lanka series, alongside Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy. The squad also includes several part-time spin options, with Travis Head being one of them.
Australia will play two Tests against Sri Lanka on January 29 and February 6, followed by two ODIs on February 12 and 14.
