Litton out injured for Afghanistan series, Soumya returns, Jaker handed captaincy
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the squad for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in October. The biggest surprise in the announced lineup is the absence of regular captain Litton Das. Although there were hopes of his return after recovering from a rib injury, he has not regained full fitness and will miss the series once again. As a result, wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali Anik has been handed the captaincy. This will be his first time leading the national team.
While there are no major changes in the squad, experienced left-hander Soumya Sarkar has made a return. He was not part of the Asia Cup but has been recalled by the selectors. At 32, Soumya brings flexibility in the top and middle order, along with his part-time bowling, which the team management is expected to rely on.
Bangladesh sees this series as an important preparation ahead of the World Cup. Despite Litton’s absence due to injury, the coaching staff and selectors are keen to keep the side competitive.
The entire series will be played in Sharjah, UAE. The first two matches will be held on consecutive days, October 2 and 3, followed by a day’s break before the final game on October 5. Playing against Afghanistan in desert conditions will provide Bangladesh an opportunity to test team combinations and adapt to the conditions.
Bangladesh Squad:
Zakir Ali Anik (Captain), Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain Emon, Saif Hassan, Towhid Hridoy, Shamim Hossain, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Rishad Hossain, Sheikh Mehedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Mohammad Saifuddin, Soumya Sarkar.
