Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made a strong comeback with a commanding 8-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals in their second IPL match. After losing the opening match, KKR dominated on the field, with exceptional spin bowling performances from Moeen Ali and Varun Chakravarthy, followed by a stunning unbeaten 97-run knock from Quinton de Kock, leading the team to victory in just 17.3 overs.
Despite the absence of Sunil Narine, KKR's spinners excelled, restricting Rajasthan Royals to a modest total of 151 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. In response, de Kock, in an aggressive mood from the start, played a match-winning knock of 97 runs from 61 balls, which included 8 boundaries and 6 sixes. His performance ensured KKR's victory with 15 balls to spare.
Rajasthan Royals, after opting to bat first, could only manage 151 runs in their allotted 20 overs. KKR achieved the target comfortably, losing just two wickets. Moeen Ali faced difficulties while opening, scoring just 5 runs off 12 balls before being dismissed. However, de Kock steadied the ship at the other end and led the chase with his explosive batting.
The match also saw a rare failure from KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane, who fell for just 18 runs after Moeen Ali's dismissal. However, Impact Player Angkrish Raghuvanshi stepped in with a quickfire 22 not out off 17 balls, helping KKR seal the victory in the 17th over.
Earlier, in place of the injured Sunil Narine, Moeen Ali made an unexpected entry into the KKR lineup. He bowled superbly, taking 2 wickets for 23 runs in 4 overs. Among other KKR bowlers, Varun Chakravarthy was the standout, picking up 2 wickets for just 17 runs. Vaibhav Arora and Harshit Rana also contributed with 2 wickets each.
KKR's comprehensive performance marked a brilliant turnaround after their opening-match loss, putting them back on track for the season.
