IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders have retired the No. 12 jersey to honour one of their greatest players, Andre Russell. The decision reflects the franchise’s gratitude to the Caribbean allrounder, who has been a match-winner for the team for more than a decade.

Russell represented KKR from 2014 to 2025, except for the 2017 season. Of his 140 IPL appearances, 133 came in KKR colours—highlighting his long-standing contribution and importance to the side. He was one of the team’s most dependable performers with both bat and ball.

After retiring from the IPL last November, Russell has returned in a new role as the team’s ‘power coach’. Speaking about the transition, he said it has not changed his mindset much, but rather given him an opportunity to give back to the players he once shared the field with.

Russell was part of KKR’s title-winning squads in 2014 and 2024. His impact was especially significant in the 2024 season, where he played a key role with both bat and ball. He scored 222 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 185 and picked up 19 wickets.

Beyond the IPL, Russell has also maintained a strong connection with the franchise. He played a role in helping KKR reach the final of the Champions League T20. He has also represented sister franchises Abu Dhabi Knight Riders and Trinbago Knight Riders in multiple seasons.

Overall, Andre Russell is not just a player for KKR, but a lasting symbol of the franchise’s success and identity.
