On the first day of the Chattogram Test, Sri Lanka took the lead in batting proficiency. They amassed more than three hundred runs on the opening day. Chandimal and Dhananjaya have set their sights high on this mountain of runs. Sri Lankan opener Dimuth Karunaratne praised Hasan Mahmud at a press conference for his impressive bowling against Bangladesh's batsmen. He expressed admiration for Hasan's ability to challenge the Bangladeshi batsmen and mentioned the tough test they have presented.
Today marks the beginning of Hasan Mahmud's dream with the captain's cap, replacing Shakib. Although Hasan Mahmud, the right-arm pacer, represented Bangladesh in white-ball cricket, today he made his debut in red-ball cricket for the country. Hasan's debut didn't start as well as he would have hoped, missing out on two wickets due to fielders' failures.
However, Hasan's potential hasn't gone unnoticed. In the 56th over of the innings, Hasan Mahmud got a crucial breakthrough for the team. He dismissed Sri Lankan opener Dimuth Karunaratne, who was standing strong with 86 runs, bowled.
Reflecting on Hasan Mahmud's bowling figures of 17-5-64-2 on the Test debut, it indicates how fantastic Hasan Mahmud was with the ball in hand at Chattogram.
Despite batting struggles, Sri Lankans Kushal Mendis and Dimuth Karunaratne expressed criticism. Sri Lanka lost only 4 wickets while playing 90 overs, scoring 314 runs. Speaking about their position in Chattogram Test, Dimuth Karunaratne said,
"We are happy. Scoring more than three hundred runs on the first day, we can aim for a big total again. We are in control of the match."
When asked about Bangladesh as a favorite opposition, Dimuth replied, "We visit Bangladesh quite often. So, we know their bowlers, their strategies, and we want to execute our plans well. Perhaps, this is why we see success against Bangladesh."
