Jishan and Saifuddin’s Power Show at the Hong Kong Sixes, Bangladesh Overwhelms Oman
The Bangladesh team participated in the Hong Kong Sixes 2024. They played against Oman at the Mission Road Ground in Hong Kong today (November 1), kicking off their campaign with a 34-run victory, led by the stellar performances of Jishan and Saifuddin.
After losing the toss, Bangladesh batted first. Opener Jishan Alam unleashed an onslaught on Oman’s bowlers, scoring 55 runs from just 12 balls with 1 four and 8 sixes, before he had to retire according to the tournament rules.
Mohammad Saifuddin, batting at number three, continued in a similar aggressive style, smashing 55 runs off 12 balls with 3 fours and 7 sixes. Yasir Ali Chowdhury Rabbi, who opened with Jishan, remained unbeaten on 26 from 9 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Abu Hider Rony added 4* runs off 3 balls, taking Bangladesh’s total to 147 runs in 6 overs.
In response, Oman started well. Opener Vinayak Shukla scored 29 from 8 balls, while Mujibur Ali, batting at number three, remained unbeaten on 20 from 8 balls. Batting at number four, Hasnain Shah scored 24 off 5 balls, and Jiten Ramanandi made 20 from 9 balls.
Oman ended their 6 overs at 113 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. For Bangladesh, Jishan Alam took 2 wickets, while Mohammad Saifuddin, Sohag Gazi, and Abu Hider Rony each claimed one.
Hong Kong Sixes Rules
General: Each match is played between two teams with six players each. Each team is allowed a maximum of six six-ball overs per game. One member of the fielding team can bowl a maximum of 2 overs, which cannot be consecutive. Four other players (excluding the wicketkeeper) will bowl one over each. Wides and no-balls give the batting team one run and an extra ball.
Last Man Stands:If a team loses 5 wickets within 6 overs (excluding retired batters), the last remaining batter can continue to bat with the 5th out batter as the runner. The last batter must always be on strike. If the runner is run out or interferes with the field, the last batter will be declared out, ending the innings with the fall of the 6th wicket.
Batter Retirement:Batters reaching a personal score of 50 must retire as "not out," although they cannot retire before reaching 50. The entire score, including the runs needed to complete 50, will be counted. If any player from the last pair is dismissed, any retired "not out" batter may resume their innings.
If multiple batters are retired, they will return to bat in the order they retired. Any batter failing to bat in the set order will be considered “retired out” automatically.
