Jaker Ali Anik's 91 Sets West Indies a Challenging Target of 287 Runs
On the fourth day in Jamaica, Bangladesh, leading by 211 runs, resumed batting and added the remaining five wickets to their total. While Taijul Islam and Mominul Haque were dismissed quickly, Jaker Ali Anik's aggressive batting helped Bangladesh extend their score. With an outstanding 91-run innings, Bangladesh set West Indies a challenging target of 287 runs.
Starting the day at 5 wickets for 193, Bangladesh was eventually all out for 268, with Jaker Ali Anik contributing most of the runs. He fell just short of a century, caught out for 91, but his career-best knock put Bangladesh in a strong position for a potential victory.
In Jamaica, the highest successful run chase in a Test's fourth innings was 211 runs, set by West Indies' captain Brian Lara. However, Bangladesh has now set a higher target of 287 runs. For West Indies to win, they will need to create a new record in this match.
Alzarri Joseph began the morning session by dismissing Taijul Islam, who had been unbeaten the previous evening. This broke the 34-run partnership between Zaker and Taijul. Mominul Haque was dismissed for a duck after just four balls. Hasan Mahmud briefly supported Zaker, facing 12 balls. In all three of Bangladesh's early wickets lost in the session, Kavem Hodge took catches at first slip.
Zaker Ali Anik reached his half-century off 80 balls with a six off Alzarri Joseph. This marked his third consecutive fifty in as many Tests. After reaching his fifty, he accelerated, scoring 18 runs off six balls in the same over and hitting another six off Kemar Roach in the following over.
