In a nail-biting finish, Bangladesh secured a thrilling victory, sealing the T20I series against Pakistan. The hero of the match, Jaker Ali Anik, stepped up when it mattered most. Speaking at the post-match press conference in Mirpur, the batter opened up about planning, execution, team spirit, and the emotional weight the team carried into the match.

Planned for a Low-Scoring Battle

Jaker revealed that the team had mentally prepared for a low-scoring contest.

“We were mentally ready for a low-total game. This wicket isn’t typically high-scoring. The captain had already said, ‘Aim for 140.’ We got pretty close,” Jakir said.
Although he believes 155–160 could’ve been possible, the team stuck to a conservative game plan, and that strategy ultimately worked in their favor.

Focused on Match-Winning Contributions

Jakir emphasized his mindset of valuing match-winning innings over personal milestones:

“I always value innings that help the team win. Even if you bat well but the team doesn’t win, I don’t count it.”

Learning from Mistakes

Despite the victory, Bangladesh showed lapses in the field, including a few dropped catches.

“Our fielding wasn’t up to the mark, we made mistakes. But we’ll work on improving that. Pakistan also batted really well, they deserve credit,” he acknowledged.

A Win Amid National Tragedy

Jakir spoke emotionally about the recent plane crash at Milestone School in Uttara, which claimed many lives.

“Yesterday was a heavy day for us. It’s hard to process such a tragedy. We pray for the departed souls and hope the injured recover soon. We tried to give our best as professionals, despite the grief.”

Used to Batting with the Tail

Batting at No. 7 is familiar territory for Jakir, who has played that role since his age-group days:

“I’ve batted with the tail a lot in age-level cricket. I always try to keep my partner safe and build the innings smartly.”

Acknowledging Mehedi’s Impact

Jakir credited Sheikh Mehedi Hasan for changing the tempo during their partnership:

“When he started attacking, I just focused on supporting him. Had he stayed longer, we could’ve done even better.”

On Rishad and Bowling Plans

Commenting on Rishad Hossain’s crucial 19th over, Jakir defended the team’s choices:

“Rishad bowled well. Not every decision can be 100% right, but there was a plan behind not giving the ball to Patwary that day.”
