Iyer told Harshit, it's time to be hero
In a thrilling match yesterday, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) managed to secure a close victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the last over. At that crucial moment, the equation was tight, with SRH needing 13 runs from the final over. Heinrikh Klaasen and Shahbaz Ahmed were at the crease, setting the stage for a nail-biting finish. Harshit Rana, who had played just 12 T20 matches before yesterday, came to bowl the final over for KKR.
It wasn't an easy task for Harshit, especially considering the explosive batting lineup of SRH. But he managed to execute his plan effectively in that pressure situation. At the beginning of the final over, Klaasen was batting on 56 runs off 26 balls, while Shahbaz had scored 16 runs off 4 balls. In the previous over, Mitchell Starc had conceded 26 runs.
Captain Shreyas Iyer expressed his thoughts after the match, saying, "Honestly, I felt anything could happen in the last over. They needed just 13 runs, and we didn't have an experienced player to bowl at that moment. But I had faith in Harshit. I knew something good could happen."
It wasn't an easy time for Harshit, but Iyer encouraged him with confidence. He told Harshit, "This is your moment to become a hero. I told him that. Harshit was under considerable pressure when he came to bowl. I looked him in the eye and said, 'This is your moment. You need to use it wisely. Don't overthink.'"
Harshit faced Klaasen in the first ball of the final over, and he managed to get a single. In the next delivery, he took Shahbaz's wicket, providing some relief to KKR. After a single on the third ball, Harshit dismissed Klaasen on the fourth delivery. The last ball resulted in a dot, leaving Pat Cummins at the striker's end.
Ultimately, Kolkata managed to win the match by just 4 runs, thanks to Harshit's brilliant final over.
