In Sylhet, the Bangladesh women's cricket team suffered a whitewash in the T20 series against Ireland, losing the third and final T20I by 4 wickets. With this win, Ireland completed a 3-0 series victory after already winning the first two matches.
The Bangladesh team, led by Nigar Sultana, was defeated in all three matches of the series, experiencing a whitewash after losing the T20I series. Although they swept Ireland in the ODI series, they faced the same fate in T20Is. Bangladesh lost the first match by just 12 runs, followed by a 47-run loss in the second match. Today, despite being in a winning position, Bangladesh was defeated by 4 wickets.
The dramatic conclusion in the final over sealed Bangladesh’s fate. To win, Ireland needed 14 runs from the last over. The first ball saw Arlene Kelly run out. However, Laura Delany, the set batter, took two runs off the next ball. After that, Delany struck three consecutive boundaries off the next three balls of Swarna Akter’s over to take Ireland to victory with one ball to spare, winning by 4 wickets.
In their attempt to avoid a whitewash, Bangladesh could only manage a fragile total after opting to bat first. After scoring 100 runs in the first 13 overs, they could add only 23 runs in the next 7 overs. They lost 6 wickets in the final 39 balls. Bangladesh finished their 20 overs at 123 for 7, with Sobhana Mostari being the top scorer, contributing 45 runs off 43 balls. Ireland's Orla Prendergast was the standout bowler, taking 4 wickets for 22 runs in her 4 overs.
Chasing the modest target, Ireland comfortably achieved it with 1 ball to spare, winning by 4 wickets. Bangladesh, though close to victory, ultimately lost in the final over.
