Ireland announce ODI squad for Afghanistan series, Jay Mundra earns maiden call-up

Cricket Ireland has announced a 14-member squad for the first three matches of the upcoming five-match ODI series against Afghanistan. With several first-choice players unavailable due to injuries, the selectors have included a number of fresh faces in the squad. Indian-origin pacer Jay Mundra has received his maiden ODI call-up after impressing in the recent T20I series against India.

Captain Paul Stirling returns to lead the side in the series, which begins on August 5. He missed the T20I series against India due to injury.

Ireland head into the series on the back foot, having lost several experienced and key players. A number of senior cricketers were unavailable for selection as they continue their recovery and rehabilitation from injuries.
