In the year 2024, it's the year of the ICC T20 World Cup. However, there's no pause for the ICC World Test Championship. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have played a 2-match series in Sylhet and Chattogram. There's been a change in the ranking of cricketers due to the performance in the Chattogram Test.
In the Chattogram Test, Bangladesh suffered a defeat by a significant margin of 192 runs. Despite the loss, there has been an improvement in the rankings for Bangladesh opener Zakir Hasan. Scoring fifty in the first innings, he has climbed 3 positions in the Test batter rankings, now standing at 75 with 437 rating points.
Moving up 11 positions from 99 to 88, batsman Mehidy Hasan Miraz has gained his career-best rating points of 363 as a batter.
Combining both innings, Mominul Haque has advanced by 4 positions, scoring 83 runs and reaching 46th position with 533 rating points, alongside Sri Lanka's Kamindu Mendis.
Litton Das' position has seen a significant decline, almost like a forgotten series, as he falls 5 places to 29th. Among Bangladesh batters, Litton holds the 2nd best position, with Mushfiqur Rahim being the top-ranked at 26th. Third-ranked Shakib Al Hasan is now at 43rd position, slipping one place.
Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, unable to contribute much with the bat for the team, has fallen 8 positions to 61st.
Sri Lanka's dream series has propelled Kamindu Mendis 18 positions up to a career-best 46th position among batters. He shares this spot with Mominul Haque. There's also been an improvement in his bowling, as he moves up by 46 positions.
Angelo Mathews has advanced by 2 positions to 25th among batters,.
Dimuth Karunaratne has slipped from 7 to 8. Kane Williamson of New Zealand retains the top position.
In the bowling department, Hasan Mahmud, with 6 wickets, has entered the Test bowlers' rankings at 95th position. However, it's not a picture of success for Taijul Islam, who has dropped 3 places to 18th. Mehedi Hasan Miraz is now at 24th, slipping 4 places, and Shakib Al Hasan is at 29th, dropping one place.
Pacer Khaled Ahmed has climbed 6 positions to 83rd.
Sri Lanka's Asitha Fernando has moved up 7 positions to 27th. Vishwa Fernando is at 41st. Lahiru Kumara has moved up 2 places to 44th.
Slipping 3 places from the top 10 to 11th, Prabath Jayasuriya is at 11th with 870 rating points. Ravichandran Ashwin remains at the top of the bowling rankings.
Even though he didn't play in the Sylhet Test, Shakib Al Hasan, playing in the Chattogram Test, has scored 51 runs and taken 4 wickets. He's now ranked 3rd as an all-rounder. Mehedi Hasan Miraz has moved up by 2 positions to 12th. At the top remains India's Ravindra Jadeja, with his compatriot Ravichandran Ashwin at second.
