Historic Initiative in Coaching: BCB to Launch Its Own Level Three Course Led by Ashley Ross
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to usher in a new era in the country’s coaching structure with the introduction of an international standard ‘Level Three Coaching Course’, organized entirely under its own initiative to enhance the skills and standards of domestic coaches.
Announcing the program at a press conference in Sylhet on Monday after a board meeting, BCB Director Nazmul Abedin Fahim said that while a Level Three course was held in Bangladesh in 2009, that program was conducted under the initiative of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). This time, the course will be fully managed by the BCB itself, marking a significant milestone in the history of coaching in the country.
Describing it as a ‘high-profile program’, Fahim said, “For the first time, we are organizing a Level Three course under our own management. There was a course in 2009, but it was conducted by ICC and ACC. This time, it will be our initiative, with Australian educators conducting and overseeing the course.” He added, “It is designed for coaches who are highly experienced at top-level coaching but have not yet had the opportunity to participate in a Level Three course. This will be a high-profile program.”
Leading this program is Ashley Ross, an experienced coach and coach educator from Australia, widely regarded as a ‘coach of coaches’. Ross is not just a coach but a coach-developer, who has long worked on building high-performance coaching structures. He will be joined by another Australian assistant educator.
Fahim added, “As I mentioned about the Level Three course, Ashley Ross, one of the finest coaches in this area, will lead it. He will be accompanied by an assistant educator.”
Ashley Ross began his coaching career as the Coaching Director of Victoria State in Australia and as assistant coach of the Victoria team. He later joined the New Zealand Cricket Board’s High-Performance Centre as Player Development Manager. Subsequently, he focused on designing coaching structures and is now involved in high-performance coaching, training young and emerging coaches.
The main goal of this course is to train Bangladesh’s promising coaches to meet international coaching standards. While many coaches are already working at domestic and international levels, they have not yet had the opportunity to attend a Level Three course. The BCB is now providing that opportunity
