The final thrill of Bangladesh's two openers was thwarted by poor lighting conditions. Nevertheless, Bangladesh will resume tomorrow with the target of chasing down the remaining 143 runs, having retained control over the match. Earlier, Hasan Mahmud achieved his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Although Hasan completed his five-wicket haul, Naheed Rana had to be content with four wickets. While expressing his feelings about the five-wicket haul, Hasan credited his teammates.
The pace bowlers have ignited dreams of Bangladesh's first Test series win against Pakistan. All ten wickets that fell in Pakistan's second innings were taken by the pacers. Except for Rizwan and Salman, no Pakistani batsman could truly challenge the Bangladeshi bowlers. Hasan Mahmud and Naheed Rana’s fiery pace reduced Pakistan’s second innings to just 172 runs.
In the post-day's play press conference, Hasan Mahmud attributed his first five-wicket haul to his team members, saying, "Actually, the credit should go to my teammates who work hard behind every ball. The plan was very simple. With the new ball, we had to focus on bowling according to the line as the captain and the team desired. We tried to stick to our plan and take wickets."
"Getting five wickets is a joyful and proud moment for both the country and the team. We won one match playing Test cricket. Now we have the chance to do well in another match and win here too. We are very happy."
Play was interrupted about two hours earlier than scheduled due to overcast skies and rain, shortly after the tea break. The fading light ended the thrilling final moments of Bangladesh's openers. However, Bangladesh will resume tomorrow, maintaining control of the match with the target of 143 runs. Hasan Mahmud indicated that they have a great chance of winning the match.
Hasan Mahmud, who took five wickets, conceded 43 runs in 10.4 overs. In contrast, Naheed Rana took 4 wickets for 44 runs in 11 overs. The remaining wicket was also claimed by a pacer, Taskeen Ahmed, who took it at the start of this morning’s session. Explaining the bowling innings, Hasan said:
"Regarding my role, whenever a pacer is given the ball, the plan is to figure out how to bowl in a way that takes wickets. The more balls you bowl, the more successful you will be. Taskeen Bhai started with the first wicket of the day. Then Raina bowled brilliantly, perhaps shifting the momentum in our favor. After that, I was given the ball, and I was just in my process, which is why I got the wicket."
Captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto played a crucial role in restricting Pakistan’s second innings. By making two bowling changes, he provided the team with important breakthroughs. In the first session of the day, he brought Naheed Rana into action, leading to three wickets. In the subsequent session, Shanto replaced Naheed with Hasan Mahmud, who was also incredibly successful, breaking Mohammad Rizwan's resistance and taking two wickets in successive deliveries. Hasan and Naheed dominated, dismissing Pakistan for 172 runs.
