Glenn Phillips ruled out of IPL with hamstring injury

Glenn Phillips has been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a hamstring injury. The New Zealand all-rounder, who was part of the Gujarat Titans squad, has reportedly returned home after sustaining the injury during an away match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6.

The 28-year-old right-handed all-rounder recently put in an impressive performance in the Champions Trophy held in Pakistan and Dubai, where New Zealand finished as runners-up. Phillips’ exceptional fielding and catching abilities drew special attention. Despite being picked up by Gujarat Titans for INR 2 crore in the auction, he hadn’t featured in any matches this season.

In an official statement, Gujarat Titans said,
"Following the injury sustained during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6, Glenn Phillips has returned to New Zealand. We wish him a speedy recovery."

This marks the second foreign player to leave the Titans camp this season. Earlier, South African pacer Kagiso Rabada returned home due to personal emergencies, and there is still no update on his return.

Currently, Gujarat Titans have five overseas players in the squad: Jos Buttler, Sherfane Rutherford, Rashid Khan, Gerald Coetzee, and Karim Janat. Each IPL team is allowed to have a maximum of eight overseas players in the squad.

The 2023 champions Gujarat Titans are once again in top form this season. With four wins from five matches, they sit at the top of the points table with eight points. Their only loss came in the season opener against Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad. Since then, Shubman Gill’s side has impressed with consecutive wins over Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals.
