Gambhir: 'I would love to coach the Indian team'
Former star batter Gautam Gambhir has finally expressed his desire to coach the Indian national cricket team. According to Gambhir, nothing is more honorable than becoming the coach of India. Gambhir, who has previously served as a mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL and led the team to victory, stated that he would be pleased to take on the role of India’s coach.
Currently, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are in the USA playing in the World Cup, and discussions about the team's new coach are underway. Rahul Dravid is the current coach of the Indian team, with his tenure ending after this T20 World Cup. The BCCI is searching for a new head coach, with several names, including many former Indian players and international stars, being considered. Recently, Gautam Gambhir's name has been added to this list.
In a recent interview, Gambhir expressed his interest in the position. He stated that coaching the Indian team would be a matter of pride for him, as working for the country is a significant honor.
“It would be great to be the coach of India. There is no greater honor than being the coach of your own country. Representing 1.4 billion Indians and coaching the Indian team is a matter of great pride globally.”
Under Gambhir's captaincy, Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL championships in 2012 and 2014. Returning as a mentor this season, Gambhir guided KKR to success, tasting victory once again after ten years. Many people are now advocating for Gambhir to become the coach of the Indian team, a role he is also eager to take on.
