Four-ball burst turns the match Mustafizur powers Dubai to big win over Gulf
Sometimes changing a match’s rhythm doesn’t require a long spell—just a handful of precise deliveries are enough. In the International League T20, Mustafizur Rahman delivered exactly that kind of fiery over to steal the spotlight. Against the Gulf Giants on Sunday, the left-arm pacer claimed three wickets within four balls, swinging the contest decisively in his team’s favor.
At the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Dubai Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl first. Mustafizur was introduced as early as the second over, but his opening spell was a bit expensive, conceding 13 runs. That early release gave the Gulf Giants some breathing room, though the match was far from settled.
Mustafizur returned to the attack in the 14th over, with the Gulf Giants at 110 for 3. The over began with a boundary off James Vince, followed by a wide. From there, the momentum shifted dramatically. With his second legal delivery, Mustafizur removed Vince with an off-cutter— the English batter, who had scored 36 off 34 balls, was caught by the wicketkeeper.
Kyle Mayers then took strike and fell victim to another off-cutter. Attempting a defensive shot, he got an inside edge that crashed into the stumps. Mayers departed after a brisk 43 off 26 balls, pushing the Gulf batting lineup further into trouble. In the same over, Mustafizur struck again with a superb delivery to dismiss Sean Dickson—the ball pitched outside leg stump, took the outside edge, and knocked the bails off.
Mustafizur finished with figures of 3 overs, 34 runs, and 3 wickets. His devastating spell helped bowl the Gulf Giants out for 156 with one ball to spare. Chasing the target, Dubai Capitals reached it comfortably, winning by six wickets with four balls in hand. The Player of the Match award fittingly went to Mustafizur Rahman.
