Former Skipper Aminul Islam Bulbul Appointed as New BCB President; Faruque Ahmed Files Legal Challenge
Former Bangladesh national team captain and the country’s first Test centurion, Aminul Islam Bulbul, has been appointed as the new President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). His appointment follows the dismissal of Faruque Ahmed from the role of BCB director by the National Sports Council (NSC).
However, Faruque Ahmed has legally challenged both the validity of Bulbul's appointment as a BCB director and his subsequent elevation to the BCB presidency. On Sunday, Faruque filed a writ petition with the High Court, challenging Bulbul’s legitimacy as BCB president and contesting his own removal. The hearing on the writ is expected to take place on Monday.
Aminul Islam was nominated to the board as a director by the NSC after Faruque’s removal. According to the BCB constitution, the board president is elected by a vote among the board directors, through which Aminul Islam was selected.
The court's upcoming decision may have significant implications for the leadership structure of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
