Faruks Assurance, Good News on Shakibs Return May Come Soon
Shakib Al Hasan is once again at the center of attention in Bangladesh cricket. After a prolonged absence from the national side, optimism has resurfaced regarding his comeback. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) former president and current vice-president Faruk Ahmed has hinted that encouraging news about Shakib’s return could be announced very soon.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Faruk Ahmed openly discussed the matter and explained that efforts have been ongoing since he assumed office. He said, “The matter regarding Shakib has been ongoing. I have been trying since becoming president. There is no doubt about Shakib’s fitness and professionalism. The cricket board always wants him to play for Bangladesh. Shakib is an asset and a brand for us. It is our part to select him based on his fitness, but the legal issues are being handled by the government. I hope you will receive good news very soon.”
Faruk’s statement clearly reflects the board’s continued trust in Shakib from a cricketing standpoint. However, he emphasized that the final decision also depends on the resolution of legal matters, which fall outside the board’s jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, the recently announced BCB central contract has sparked discussion after no cricketer was placed in the top ‘A Plus’ category. Addressing the criticism, Faruk explained that the landscape has changed compared to previous years. He said, “Previously, Shakib, Tamim, and Mushfiq used to play regularly in all formats. At present, there is hardly any cricketer who is indispensable and consistently playing in all formats. That is perhaps why the operations committee started with the ‘A’ grade instead of keeping an A Plus category.”
Overall, the message from the BCB official suggests that Shakib’s return to the national team is only a matter of time. Now, all eyes are on when the much-anticipated good news will officially arrive.
