Dodda Ganesh Appointed as Head Coach of Kenya Cricket Team
Former Indian cricketer Dodda Ganesh has been appointed as the head coach of the Kenya national cricket team. Ganesh, who played as a lower-order batter and medium pacer, represented India in international cricket in 1997, featuring in four Test matches and one ODI. His brief international career saw him scoring 29 runs and taking 6 wickets.
At 51 years old, Ganesh brings extensive experience to his new role, having played in 104 first-class matches and 89 List A matches, taking a total of 493 wickets. Ganesh has also coached at various levels in Indian cricket, and now he aims to elevate the performance of the Kenyan cricket team.
A video shared on social media confirmed Dodda Ganesh’s appointment as Kenya's new head coach. He succeeds Lameck Onyango in the role.
Ganesh’s first two major assignments as head coach will be the ICC Second Division Challenge League in September and the T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifiers in October. In the Challenge League, Kenya will face teams such as Papua New Guinea, Qatar, Denmark, and Jersey.
Speaking about his goals, Ganesh said, "Before taking up the role, I watched their games on YouTube. I can say they are in a good position. My first goal is to qualify for the World Cup. They have participated in the World Cup multiple times. I know about their hard work. I don’t know what happened to them in the last 10 years, but I don’t like to dwell on the past. I want to see Kenyans as champions."
