MI Emirates’ hopes of victory revolved around Shakib Al Hasan’s bat. When the team found itself under pressure after losing quick wickets early, the Bangladeshi all-rounder stepped up and took responsibility. However, even his valiant effort was not enough to carry the team to the title.
In the IL T20 final held in Dubai, Desert Vipers clinched their maiden championship by defeating Shakib’s MI Emirates by 46 runs. Under the leadership of Sam Curran, the Vipers delivered a dominant performance to script history.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Desert Vipers posted a strong total of 182 for 4 in 20 overs. Captain Sam Curran was the backbone of the innings, scoring an unbeaten 74 off 51 balls, hitting eight boundaries and two sixes. He received valuable support from Max Holden (41 off 32 balls), Dan Lawrence (23 off 15 balls), and Fakhar Zaman (20 off 15 balls).
Chasing the target, MI Emirates suffered early setbacks, losing four wickets for just 54 runs. In that difficult situation, Shakib Al Hasan tried to steady the innings. He added 60 runs off 45 balls for the fifth wicket with Kieron Pollard in an attempt to bring his team back into the contest.
Shakib top-scored for his side, making 36 off 27 balls with three fours. But after his dismissal, MI Emirates’ resistance collapsed. Pollard scored 28 off 28 balls, but he could not bridge the gap.
Earlier, Shakib bowled one over, conceding 10 runs without taking a wicket. Eventually, MI Emirates were bowled out for 136 in 18.3 overs. With Shakib left disappointed, the Desert Vipers went on to lift the IL T20 trophy for the first time.
