Cricket Returns to the Olympics After 128 Years — Here’s Where It Will Be Played

After 128 years, cricket is set to make its return to the Olympic Games. The historic comeback will take place at the Fairgrounds in Pomona, Southern California, during the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially confirmed the venue.

On April 9 this year, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board announced the team count and athlete quota for cricket. The competition will feature six teams each in the men’s and women’s T20 formats. A total of 90 players will be allowed in each category, meaning each team can have a maximum of 15 players.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah stated in a press release,
"Confirming the cricket venue for LA28 is a significant step in our preparations. The T20 format will help cricket reach new audiences through the Olympics, and this is a great opportunity for our sport."

He added,
"On behalf of the ICC, I thank LA28 and the IOC, and we look forward to working with our member nations to make this a successful event."

In October 2023, the IOC approved the inclusion of cricket in the Olympic Games, along with five other new sports—baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes), squash, and cricket.
