West Indies Test captain Kraigg Brathwaitehas resigned from his position after leading the team in 39 Tests. Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced that they will name the new Test captain next week. In the meantime, Shai Hope has been appointed as the captain of the T20I team.
Following Kraigg Brathwaite's decision to step down, the West Indies team will begin the next World Test Championship cycle under a new captain. Brathwaite led the West Indies in 39 Tests from 2017 to 2025, with the team winning 10 matches and losing 22. He officially took over the captaincy in 2021. Brathwaite expressed his intention to resign after the West Indies' tour of Pakistan.
Meanwhile, there has been a leadership change in the white-ball teams as well. Shai Hope, who was the ODI captain, will also take over the role of T20I captain, replacing Rovman Powell. Powell had served as the T20I captain since May 2023.
CWI has stated that this decision was made following consultations with head coach Darren Sammy.
