Changes in Pakistan's Squad for the 1st Test Against Bangladesh
Before the first Test against Bangladesh, the Pakistan cricket team has made two changes to their previously announced squad. Leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed and batter Kamran Ghulam have been excluded from the first Test. However, both players will rejoin the national team before the second Test.
According to a press release from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the selectors have decided to field a pace-heavy attack for the Rawalpindi Test. During this period, Abrar will be sent to the Pakistan Shaheens team for match practice instead of remaining on the national team's bench. This will allow him to prepare for the second Test of the series.
Removing the only recognized spinner from the squad means that Pakistan will be playing with an entirely pace-reliant bowling attack against Bangladesh.
Currently, not only is the Bangladesh national team in Pakistan, but the Bangladesh 'A' team is also there. Both teams will play series against Pakistan's national team and Pakistan Shaheens simultaneously. The second four-day match is set to begin on August 20. Abrar Ahmed and Kamran Ghulam have been moved from the national team to join this match.
Pakistan's strategic changes are aimed at forming a stronger squad against Bangladesh. The Bangladesh-Pakistan Test series is part of the World Test Championship, which is why Pakistan is taking it seriously.
Even without the availability of spinner Abrar Ahmed, coach Jason Gillespie has previously mentioned that they plan to use all-rounder Agha Salman as an off-spinner. Additionally, the pace attack includes Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mir Hamza, Mohammad Ali, Amir Jamal, and Khurram Shehzad.
The first Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan will begin on August 21 in Rawalpindi.
