Century Partnership and Sharp Bowling Power Bangladesh Past Thailand
Stepping onto the Super Six stage with confidence, the Bangladesh women’s team delivered a commanding all-round performance to outplay Thailand. Dominance with both bat and ball kept the opposition under pressure from the outset, as the Tigresses sealed an emphatic 39-run victory.
After losing the toss and being sent in to bat, Bangladesh did not have the ideal start. Opener Dilara Akter departed on the very first ball, while Sharmin Akter Supta also failed to build a substantial innings. With the scoreboard reading 12 for 2, Juwairiya Ferdous and Sobhana Mostary steadied the innings, first absorbing the pressure before shifting gears with aggressive stroke play to change the course of the match.
Despite being in the spotlight in domestic cricket, Juwairiya had been waiting to make her mark at the international level—and she found that moment in this game. Building her innings patiently, the right-hander went on to register her maiden T20 half-century. At the other end, the ever-consistent Sobhana matched her stride for stride, as the pair stitched together a 110-run stand, one of Bangladesh’s most significant partnerships in T20 cricket.
Although neither batter could extend her stay after reaching fifty, their contributions laid a solid foundation. Juwairiya scored 56 while Sobhana added 59. A brisk cameo from Ritu Moni at the death lifted Bangladesh to a competitive total of 165. Thailand’s bowlers, led by Thipacha Putthawong and Annicha Kamchomphu, managed a few breakthroughs but could not prevent the flow of runs.
Thailand’s chase suffered an immediate setback, losing a wicket on the very first ball. Marufa Akter struck early, trapping Suwanan Khiaotho lbw with a superb delivery. Nattakan Chantham and Nannapat Koncharoenkai then combined for a second-wicket stand to revive hopes, but Fahima Khatun’s breakthrough swung the momentum back in Bangladesh’s favor. Another quick strike from Swarna Akter further slowed the chase.
Captain Naruemol Chaiwai tried to anchor the innings, but wickets kept falling at the other end. Thailand were eventually restricted to 126 for their allotted overs. Marufa finished with three wickets, while Ritu Moni and Swarna Akter claimed two each, as Bangladesh wrapped up a convincing 39-run win—an ideal start to their Super Six campaign that further boosted the team’s confidence.
