BCB Issues Official Statement on Asif Nazruls Comments

Amid ongoing speculation about the Bangladesh team’s participation and venue for the T20 World Cup 2026, confusion arose on Monday when Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Nazrul issued certain warnings. In response, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has now released an official statement.

According to the BCB’s press release, the letter mentioned by Asif Nazrul does not constitute any official decision by the ICC. It was primarily an internal communication concerning the assessment of security risks for the Bangladesh team ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup, exchanged between the BCB and the ICC Security Department. The board clarified that this communication cannot be considered as the ICC’s final or written response regarding moving Bangladesh’s matches outside India.

Earlier, due to the ongoing political tensions between India and Bangladesh and related security concerns, the BCB had sent a letter to the ICC requesting that the World Cup matches be held outside India, particularly in Sri Lanka. However, the board had stated at the time that a final decision on Bangladesh’s participation in the World Cup would be made only after receiving an official decision from the ICC.
