BCB Holds Meeting with ICC on T20 World Cup
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has held a meeting with the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding Bangladesh’s participation in the T20 World Cup. The meeting took place in Dhaka on Saturday, where the BCB reiterated its formal request to relocate Bangladesh’s matches to Sri Lanka.
During the meeting, the BCB presented to the ICC the safety and security concerns raised by the Government of Bangladesh. Issues related to the safety of Bangladesh players, supporters, media personnel, and other relevant stakeholders were discussed with due importance.
According to the BCB, the discussions were conducted in a constructive, cordial, and professional manner. All parties openly shared their respective positions. As a possible alternative, the option of placing Bangladesh in a different group was also discussed, aiming to resolve the matter with minimal logistical adjustments.
The ICC was represented at the meeting by Gaurav Saxena, General Manager of Events and Corporate Communications, and Andrew Ephgrave, General Manager of the Integrity Unit. Due to visa-related complications, Gaurav Saxena was unable to attend the meeting in person and joined the discussions virtually. Andrew Ephgrave attended the meeting physically.
Representing the BCB were President Md Aminul Islam, Vice Presidents Md Shakawath Hossain and Faruque Ahmed, Director and Chairman of the Cricket Operations Committee Nazmul Abedeen, and Chief Executive Officer Nizam Uddin Chowdhury.
Following the meeting, both the BCB and the ICC agreed to continue constructive dialogue on the issue.
