BCB Holds Meeting on Cricket Pathway, Emphasises Reform in Age-Group Cricket

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has held a discussion on the country’s cricket pathway structure with the aim of further strengthening the system for developing players from age-group cricket to the national team.

The meeting, held on Monday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, reviewed the existing age-group cricket structure, assessed its effectiveness and identified potential areas for improvement. Particular emphasis was placed on revisiting the age-group selection process and ensuring transparency and credibility in the current age verification procedures.

The discussion also included a proposal to introduce an incentive system for coaches, aimed at recognising those who successfully develop players at their respective levels. At the same time, the need to establish a comprehensive player database covering participants in all domestic competitions was highlighted, which would support long-term planning and performance analysis.

Issues related to the salary structure of divisional and district-level coaches were discussed, along with the need to define a clear and structured career pathway for coaches. The meeting also agreed on forming a Curriculum Review Committee to update the existing coaching training and cricket education curriculum.

As part of the broader cricket pathway framework, the introduction of a National Cricket Academy programme for Under-23 players was also discussed.

The meeting was attended by BCB President Md Aminul Islam, board directors, BCB Chief Executive Officer Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, and members of the national team’s coaching and selection panels.
