BCB Elections in June as Bangladesh Cricket Moves Toward Forming a New Board
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections will be held on June 7, the board’s election commission announced on Saturday. In the election, which will determine the board for the next four years, the general members, known as councillors, will elect 23 of the 25 directors. The BCB president will then be elected from among those 25 directors.
Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal was appointed as the current BCB president through an ad-hoc committee formed by the government in April. Tamim is also included in the councillors’ list and is expected to oversee both the directors’ and president’s elections on June 7.
The previous BCB elections were held in October 2025, when another former Bangladesh captain, Aminul Islam, secured a landslide victory. However, following allegations of “serious abuse of power” found in a report by an investigation committee formed to review the 2025 elections, the government decided to form a new ad-hoc committee.
Only a few members from Aminul’s board are participating in this year’s election. Aminul is reportedly currently in Australia, while former BCB president Faruque Ahmed, considered one of his close allies, is also not taking part in the election.
The draft voters’ list for the election of the 23 directors was published on Sunday, while the final list is expected to be released later this week.
The election will be held under three categories. In the first category, 10 directors will be elected from representatives of divisional and district sports associations across the country. In the second category, 12 directors will be elected from representatives of Dhaka-based clubs. In the third category, one director will be elected from a pool consisting of former cricketers, former national captains, security forces, and councillors nominated by the National Sports Council. The remaining two directors will be nominated by the Bangladesh government.
