Bangladesh's assistant coach Nic Pothas has resigned

Nic Pothas has resigned from his position as the assistant coach of the Bangladesh national cricket team before the end of his contract with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Citing personal reasons, Pothas stepped down from his role as the team's assistant coach.

Pothas, a former South African cricketer, was appointed as Bangladesh's assistant coach in April 2023. Despite his role as an assistant, he primarily focused on the team’s fielding. Although his contract with the BCB was set to run until March 2026, Pothas decided to leave just before the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. He made the announcement in an emotional Instagram post last night, bidding farewell to Bangladesh.

Pothas has been coaching for over a decade. Before taking charge of the Bangladesh team, he worked as the wicketkeeping coach for Hampshire County. He also served as the head coach of the West Indies and Sri Lanka national teams and was once a fielding coach for both countries.

As a player, Pothas’ international career was not as extensive. He played three One Day Internationals (ODIs) for South Africa as a wicketkeeper-batsman. However, he had a long career in county cricket with Hampshire, where he played 218 first-class matches, scoring 11,438 runs, including 24 centuries and 61 fifties.
